Summary of report content

This report summarises feedback received by Healthwatch Northumberland during the period January to March 2019.

During this time Healthwatch Northumberland received 48 individual pieces of feedback through talking to people at local community events, telephone calls, emails, social media, surveys and feedback forms, and other sources. They also had 750 responses to their annual survey.

The average person feeding back to Healthwatch Northumberland is a woman aged between 50-64 from the North Northumberland area. They are most likely to be feeding back about their own experiences.

An analysis of common themes in the feedback (85%) showed that access to services, mainly about poor transport to healthcare in a largely rural area, was a major theme.

The majority of comments received were negative, with 66% of responses reflecting this sentiment.

Most negative feedback was about GP practices, mainly in relation to making appointments.

Feedback about acute care was overwhelmingly negative, mainly in regards to the distance people have to travel to get to a provider, long waiting times and unclear communication.

Healthwatch Northumberland heard about the impact of the loss of the Hear to Help service, which was provided by Action on Hearing Loss.
