Healthwatch Leicestershire produced a report focusing on young people's mental health and sexual health. It provides an analysis of the responses we receive from their survey and focus group discussions.
This report reflects the views of over 420 young people. They found embarrassment and lack of confidence acts as a barrier to accessing mental and sexual health services as a young person. This causes problems and challenges when trying to engage with young people who are disconnected from services that have been designed to help and support them.
Healthwatch's conclusion from the findings of this report were that young people want services that are accessible, equitable, age-appropriate and responsive to their needs. Mainstream services offering a generic type of care are less effective than those that seek to engage and provide for specific targets.
