Healthwatch East Sussex report on the impact they have had as a result of taking up issues raised through their engagement with local people in June 2024.
Issues raised included:
- Online referral to podiatry services
- NHS dentistry refusing to provide a BSL interpreter for appointments
- Being deregistered from a GP practice
- Access to the wheelchair service
They also report on other issues they have researched or raised:
Engagement in local food banks, where they heard about how low income affects people's ability to access health care
At the Eastbourne Cultural Involvement Group, they heard about how some people found it difficult to access healthcare due to problems getting an interpreter
They met with NHS staff delivering the Sussex Dental Helpline so Healthwatch could understand what support the helpline offers callers, and how our Information and Signposting service could get enquirers to the right place as quickly as possible.
They shared insight and experiences from East Sussex residents who've told us about the challenges they face in travelling to health and care services with County Council staff developing the new Local Transport Plan. They raised the importance of considering travel to and from health services when commissioning transport services and routes.
