Healthwatch Essex undertook a further piece of research on young people's experience of mental health and A&E services and how they accessed information about health and social care. Working in partnership with NCS providers for Essex, Essex Boys and Girls Clubs and Essex County Council, they engaged with 865 young people that were both geographically and socio-demographically representative of Essex.
The young people consistently felt they needed more information about health and social care topics and services, in order to manage their own care and to support others.
Patient experience was key to how positively young people felt about their care, with young people placing great importance on feeling informed, listened to, and able to make choices about their care
Across topics, participants expressed feeling that services did not fit the needs of their age group.
