Summary of report content

Healthwatch Manchester undertook mystery shopping on information about the location of defibrillators in Manchester city centre after hearing from someone that they tried to find a defibrillator to help someone who had lost consciousness.  Healthwatch staff decided on three routes through the city centre, each one visiting around 20 defibrillators.

Out of the 63 defibrillator locations they visited, they found 40 defibrillators in situ. Defibrillators were impossible to locate in 37% of locations.

Of the 40 locations where they found a defibrillator, 13 were either cPAD or Kiosk’s, meaning no staff were present at any time.

Out of the remaining 27 locations, 23 had staff who were trained on how to use them. When compared to the original 63 locations, this equates to 37%.

The report includes three recommendations about accurate, thorough and accessible information to the public.
