Summary of report content

Healthwatch England reports on an analysis of feedback from the Healthwatch network over the past two years on the needs of carers.  The report is based on the views of 5,447 people.

Key findings

The number of carers is increasing and they are doing more than ever.

Whilst carer have rights to assessments under the Care Act, they are not always aware of this and only start looking for help when they reach crisis point.

Data we collected from councils shows that carers have to wait an average of 57 days for services once they request support.

Many councils don't know how many carers there are in their area and few were able to say how long carers were waiting for services.
