This report focuses on the information Healthwatch Wigan and Leigh found in the online surveys section of this investigation. The surveys were promoted alongside workshops at Wigan Youth Council, Leigh Youth Voice, classroom sessions with Year 12 and 13 Health and Care students at St Marys 6th form college, Tyldesley and Wigan and Leigh College Parsons Walk campus, Pagefield campus and Leigh campus.
63 people took part in the survey, with 40 respondents identifying themselves as under 18 years old.
Many young people showed a strong desire for talking and support, which reinforces the need for preventative support. Schools, GPs, local mental health services around hospital, and private counsellors were all important points of access for mental health support. Respondents highlighted a main source of concern for young people was often related to school.
Respondents also highlighted the potential for using technology to improve communication and access to support.
