Summary of report content

In June 2020, Healthwatch Sunderland gathered feedback from 714 respondents, gathering people’s general experiences of using health and social care services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this report is to understand the experiences of those who responded to the ‘Keeping Yourself Well’ impact questions.

Most respondents reported their levels of exercise had been adversely affected by the pandemic with 41% seeing a decrease in levels. Almost half of smokers (49%) reported that the amount they had been smoking had stayed the same, but 36% reported they are smoking more.  Almost half of those who were drinking alcohol hadn’t changed the amount they consumed, but 36% reported they had been consuming more since the beginning of the pandemic. The majority (44%) of those completing the survey reported their weight had stayed the same, but 41% reported a weight gain.

The results of the survey are being shared with commissioners and providers of services so that they can be used to shape future service responses.
