Summary of report content

Healthwatch Dorset undertook engagement to understand people’s current experience of getting support for cancer to inform an integrated care model.  They spoke to 142 people via a survey and interviews during January and February 2020.

People were happy and grateful to the NHS for their medical treatment.  Around 60% of people who responded to the survey and 40% of people interviewed had had a conversation with an NHS professional about their support needs.  People would like more emotional support and help with treatment, finances and transport.  Younger cancer patients, carers and family members felt there was less support for them.

The report contains 5 recommendations about how to improve the support for cancer patients, their carers and families.
