Healthwatch Trafford wanted to explore the prevalence of vaping in Trafford amongst children and young people. They spoke to children and young people and parents and carers via two surveys. They gathered 5591 responses.
Almost a fifth of children and young people had either tried vaping or did so on a regular basis. A large proportion of those who do vape are either planning to cut down or quit or are trying to do so. Parents and carers were most likely to have experienced negative behavioural or emotional impacts of vaping in their children and young people. There was a lack of information on where to seek support available to stop vaping. Over 70% of children and young people would still continue to vape if the range of sweet vape flavours were no longer available.
Over a third of parents and carers didn't know the difference between regulated and unregulated vapes.
The report has recommendations calling for further research, and better education and information.
