Following the initial Enter and View visit in February 2015 a further visit was made to follow up on the 20 recommendations made. An update has been obtained on each of the following:

• Provision of activities – 2 activity coordinators employed

• Use of internet for the residents – free WiFi available and iPad for less mobile residents

• Opportunities for physical activities – residents encouraged by Activity Co-ordinator to participate appropriate physical exercises

• Opportunities for going out – weekly outings arranged

• Photos of staff – boards now in place

• Accessibility of call bells – access for all residents

• Communication Skills Training – Effective communication training is part of the induction for each member of staff as well as Dementia level 1 training. The Home recently went through Barchester’s 10-60-6 Dementia programme and staff are awaiting their accreditation

• Equality and diversity training – delivered by Regional Manager

• Manual handling training - Mandatory Training Moving and Handling during induction

• Overnight stays for relatives – reclining chairs available

• Volunteer involvement – active recruitment ongoing

• Access to mental health services – local Mental Health team involved with regular reviews for residents

• Hygiene – cleaning schedules in place

• Signs and notices - All signs displayed are in accordance with the company policies and procedures which comply with the Health and Safety procedures

• Seats for visitors – available in small lounge areas

• Care home provider meetings – Regional Managers to take part

• Staff holidays – undergone a review

• Night staffing – Regional Director meets the teams

• Team building – regular team meetings

• Gold Standards Framework – review and start the reaccreditation process.

Current findings:

• Concerned to find that the frequent turnover of managers and activities organisers has continued

• Recommend that physical exercise activities should be delivered by a person who has had appropriate training, such as a qualified physiotherapist.
