Summary of report content

Healthwatch Dudley conducted a survey with 68 people between April and August 2015 to evaluate tobacco use. They also conducted focus groups with 7 young people.

The report found that people smoked mainly because their friends did and the majority of people spent under £20 each week on tobacco products. People generally described that smoking gave them a buzz or a nicotine high. Higher prices of tobacco products generally would not deter people from smoking. The majority of people had received medical advice to stop smoking, with the majority of people suffering from breathing problems. The majority of people reported that they were not influenced by messages about the dangers of tobacco and smoking. There were still some women who reported smoking during their pregnancy.

A number of recommendations are listed at the end of the report.

No service provider response is included.
