Summary of report content

The report highlights the findings from a review of services provided to local patients aged over 65 years by the London Ambulance Service, the review examined the provision of services to identify any practical recommendations.

The work included engagement with the following:

• 200 local patients aged 65 and above;

• Reviewed information from the LAS in Hounslow;

• Connected with managers and some staff in six homes.

The sample included males and females from diverse ethnic groups and the sample also included people with long-term health conditions such as coronary heart disease, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Recommendations were made in the report which included:

• Reduce LAS call outs, by increasing training and education

• Reduce LAS call outs, by reducing falls, and increasing people’s activity levels

• Falls prevention training and exercise activities initiative to be extended beyond care homes into the community.

At the time of publication there was no provider or commissioner response to the report findings.
