Summary of report content

Healthwatch Derby undertook a survey of people to look at their choices and behaviours when using health and social care services during the pandemic. They found that:

  • people attended appointments only when they felt the issue was serious
  • some avoided going to the services as they didn’t want to overburden them
  • some were confused or worried due to lack of adequate information from the providers
  • they were unsure what services were available or assumed services were cancelled due to the pandemic
  • people avoided going to the hospital for fear of catching COVID-19
  • lack of communication from services meant some thought they couldn’t use the services during this period
