Summary of report content

Healthwatch East Sussex report on the findings of their Summer 2023 roadshow where they engaged with people across East Sussex in a variety of engagement events about their experience of health and social care.  They spoke to 300 people.

The challenges of accessing NHS Dentistry across the county was raised by many, with people saying they had given up or felt forced to pay for private dental services. When people did get NHS care, they were thankful for the service quality.

They heard from people who had concerns about not being able to access GP appointments. Some had resorted to private care as a result. Phone queues and delays were raised as an issue for many.  Others were very happy about the care they received from their GP surgery.

People raised concerns about the hospital discharge feeling rushed and they left without the right aftercare in place.

Social Care complaints procedures were felt by some people to be confusing and difficult to understand.

They heard concerns about the digitisation of services, and how this was isolating for some people.

In some areas of East Sussex, issues were also raised about the distance to get to health and care services, particularly for those in rural communities.

People living in rural areas had a range of concerns with pharmacy provision as they had to travel to access services. Recent pharmacy closures was a cause of concern for some.
