Having a stoma had impacted people’s lives in many ways, often significantly

The suggestions for improvement made by respondents were varied. They highlighted the need for connection with others who have shared lived experiences, and the need to be able to access ongoing accurate information on stoma care more easily. People also commented that they wanted improved communication between their GP practice, and the company providing their stoma equipment. Finally, surgeries and hospitals need to ensure that staff are knowledgeable about stoma care, and the impact it can have. Also that the individual needs of those with a stoma vary, so flexibility in care is important.
