Summary of report content

Healthwatch In Sussex hosted an online webinar for 90 families and friends of care home residents. It explored the impact and potential solutions to the separation of care home residents and their loved ones in a pandemic.

It was found that family members had a reduction in visitation which impacted family members and care home residents' wellbeing. Some care homes were developing positive initiatives to ensure everyone could stay connected. Support organisations reported the deterioration of mental and physical health of care home residents as a result of reduced family interaction and support.

A number of recommendations were made including sharing findings with relevant stakeholders and promoting good practice.
