Summary of report content

In April & May 2019, Healthwatch Medway proactively sought the views and thoughts of Carers in Medway. They were particularly interested to hear from people under 25 who had Caring responsibilities and those who offer support to young carers including help around educational, social and personal development issues.  They spoke to 8 people.

The young carers expressed the mental strain they felt about being a carer.  Several weren’t aware of the condition of the person they were caring for.  This added to their anxieties.

All felt that they had not received the support that they needed.

None were aware of the Carers Strategy and none of them felt their views had been taken into consideration as part of the strategy.

The report has four recommendations to address the issues raised.
