Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bolton decided to undertake a survey on access to GPs after hearing increased feedback about accessing particular practices in the area of Westhoughton.  The survey ran from 21 September to 31 October 2023.  They heard from 44 people.

Just over a third said they were told which clinician they were seeing when they were given an appointment.

Two thirds said it was not at all easy to get through to the GP practice by phone.

Just under three in ten said it was not at all easy to use digital platforms to contact their GP.

Over two in five said they were sometimes offered the type of appointment they prefer at their practice.

Over half had self cared if they couldn't get an appointment at their practice.  Just under three in ten had gone to A&E.
