Healthwatch Shropshire report on the key issues gathered during engagement events from January to March 2023. During this period, they received 112 pieces of feedback.
With the launch of the second phase of the ‘Because we all care’ campaign, Healthwatch Shropshire wanted to increase their engagement with the community and went to five different markets across Shropshire to engage with local people.
Of those, 80% (90 people) said they were particularly concerned about a local service or services. Those who indicated multiple services were concerned about 2 services on average. 20% (22 people) said they had no concerns at all because they were either very satisfied with the care they were receiving or felt that they did not need to use services.
The key issues in this report are:
• Access to GP appointments, including people struggling to navigate complicated, busy phone lines and not being able to get a face-to-face appointment
• Hospital care, including feeling well cared for in the local hospitals, and the staff and the care they provided being excellent
• Getting an NHS dentist, including finding it very difficult to get an NHS dentist and having to either pay privately or just not having an appointment at all
• Support for learning disabilities
• Transport
Shropshire Public Health and Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin NHS have responded to the report.
