Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bromley carried out research at the Chartwell Unit during November and December 2025, speaking with patients, family members and health professionals through in‑person engagement and an online survey.

The work was undertaken by Healthwatch staff and volunteers to understand people’s experiences of cancer care at the Chartwell Unit and, for a smaller number of respondents, at King’s College Hospital (KCH), Denmark Hill. The purpose of the research was to gather detailed feedback on what was working well, what could be improved, and to identify any themes relating to treatment, access, communication, or the overall patient journey.

A total of 235 people contributed feedback.

Key findings showed very high levels of satisfaction with staff attitudes, quality of treatment, and the supportive, community‑focused environment at the Chartwell Unit. Patients valued the convenience of receiving care closer to home. Areas needing improvement included car parking at both sites, long waiting times, delays in test results, and communication between services—particularly between hospital teams and GPs.

Recommendations included updating PRUH parking information, reviewing parking capacity (including electric‑vehicle bays), and exploring travel support options such as a shuttle service to Denmark Hill. The report did not state the outcomes of these recommendations, as implementation had not yet taken place.
