Summary of report content

Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire worked with Youth Action to train and develop a group of young volunteers to carry out peer interviews. They co-produced a set of key questions aimed at exploring the young peoples' knowledge and understanding of mental health, their experiences, and the experiences of those around them or those close to them, such as friends or family members.

Eleven Respondents, aged between 12 and 19, were interviewed at the Sandy Youth Club and were also asked to rate any service they had personal experience of. Though the number of respondents is not statistically significant, the project provides insight into young peoples’ understanding and experiences of mental health.

The report contains individual stories that provide a clear demonstration that children and young people know about and experience

mental health issues and the significant impact on their lives that these can have.
