Summary of report content

As part of NHS Long Term Plan, Healthwatch Tameside worked together with the other local Healthwatch in Greater Manchester to find out what local people think. They chose the Heart and Lung specific survey as their focus. They asked people to fill out the survey, if they (or a family member or friend) had used heart and/or lung services. This was available online or on paper and was publicised widely. They also held two focus groups, on 17 and 26 April 2019.

They found that people wanted better communication with professionals, shorter waiting times for diagnosis and/or treatment, long-term support available to all who need it, families and carers to be involved more, support and care in the community and any technology that will improve care for patients is welcomed, whilst remembering that not everyone can access technology.

The report made four recommendations about communication, diagnosis, treatment and support, technology in medical services and travel to and from the services. Healthwatch Tameside planned to share this report with commissioners and providers of heart and lung services in Tameside, Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, Healthwatch England and with the wider public via their website and newsletters. The report contains a response from Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
