Healthwatch Sefton were concerned about feedback they received via their online feedback centre on accessing repeat prescriptions at both pharmacies and GPs. They also attended a meeting of People First Merseyside on 7 June 2017 to find out their experiences. They spoke to 12 people.
Members felt the new system for ordering repeat prescriptions was more difficult for people with learning disabilities and that it took away their independence. Members reported that they sometimes end up with no medication as they did not understand when they needed to re-order. One person stated the new system now resulted in them having to make an appointment to order their repeat prescription, therefore taking up GP appointment time.
The report contains four recommendations about support for people with learning disabilities and improving access to repeat prescriptions.
