Summary of report content

Healthwatch Sutton undertook a project to look at people's experience of giving birth at St Helier Hospital following feedback from the public and a CQC inspection.  They spoke to 11 women.

Key findings

Positive experiences focused on continuity of care, praise for staff and clear understanding and choice.

Poor experiences centred on being left alone in labour and after giving birth, not being listened to, not being given enough information to make a choice, conflicting advice from midwives and consultants, lack of empathy, aftercare, the understanding of tests done on the baby, not being given information on vaccinations and finding support after leaving hospital.
