Over a 4 month period, Healthwatch Cornwall collected feedback from people who had had a negative experience using the orthotics services. They collected feedback from patients and relatives.
The report summarised 5 main areas of concern. These were receiving an appointment, repairs and replacements of equipment, suitable use of GPs’ time, changes to appointments, and request for equipment. In particular, service users commented that it can take long time for them to get an appointment for an initial consultation or fitting of equipment, with wait times as long as 17 weeks. The report also indicated that problems with the booking system were creating confusion for service users.
The report made several recommendations. These included reducing wait times for vulnerable service users for equipment and ensuring that information that is passed on to service users is accurate.
The report did not include a response from the provider, however, Healthwatch Cornwall included some additional information in their report. This information indicated that there some positive changes had been made to improve the orthotics services.
