Download (PDF 324.15 KB)Summary of report content
This report was written by Healthwatch Brighton and Hove following feedback from local residents on the topic of patient transport.
The report was published February, 2018. A set of surveys were conducted with patients from the Renal Outpatient Department of Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH). People were asked to fill in a survey during three periods of time, a total of 390 people responded (group 1: 50, group 2: 218, group 3: 122).
Overall sentiment was negative, a variety of concerns were raised about the difficulties of patient transport. This work was also running alongside awareness that the new contractor for patient transport was not operating well. Though there was improvement towards the end of the engagement with patients, the contract was utlimately withdrawn from the new provider.
A set of recommendations is included in the report. No response from related providers is attached.
Summary of recommendations:
- A plan needed to address the concerns raised about the service
- Improve reliability
- Improve the way journey's are booked and monitored
- Training for drivers
