In January 2020, Healthwatch Oldham wanted to better understand people’s experiences of mental health during the winter months. In January 2021, they wanted to do the same but compare on the COVID-19 pandemic has further impacted people’s mental health. They undertook a survey to which 62 people responded.
Nearly two in five people said that their mental health had been negatively impacted throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. The report compares the findings for 2021 against those for 2020. There were increases of the proportion of people who were feeling sad, struggled to sleep or felt irritable.
In 2021, nearly seven in ten people had spoken to family and friends about their feelings, compared to 55% in 2020. Fewer people had spent time with family, meeting up with friends, undertaken regular exercise or in mindfulness activities.
Nearly two thirds of respondents in 2021 hadn't received a formal diagnosis.
