Healthwatch Sefton reports on the issues shared in 118 pieces of online feedback about Southport, Ormskirk and St Helens hospitals between June and December 2023.
There were many positive examples of positive treatment and care and staff attitude. However, Healthwatch asked the hospitals to consider the key themes raised within the report, and examine them alongside the patient experience feedback they received internally to ensure any improvement areas can be strengthened.
Issues of concern included:
- the x-ray/scan department, in particular how the dignity and privacy of patients is affected by staff attitude.
- communication and information within appointment letters about the site location of appointments.
- Travel to and between the two hospital sites continues to be raised within the feedback as an issue. with travel for patients receiving cancer treatment and the issues this causes. There is a suggestion of a shuttle bus between the two sites.
- Patients undergoing chemotherapy who are told to attend Southport A & E are left in the waiting rooms with other patients, with potentially life threatening illnesses such as sepsis.
- Whether the hospitals had implemented the accessible information standard.
The report includes responses from the hospitals.
