Summary of report content

Healthwatch Salford was tasked by Salford City Council to set up and support the Salford Men’s Mental Health Commission. They worked with the Jamie Horrocks Trust to commission and host focus groups for partners of men and interviews, engaging with 48 men.  They also carried out a survey of 209 men.

The research identified the stressors affecting Salford men and their coping mechanisms.  Physical activities were identified as effective coping strategies.

Men also wanted readily available information allowing them to make informed decisions about the support they can access.

Community groups which play a crucial role in providing support, expressed challenges in securing funding.

The men's partners expressed a need for more support themselves.
