Summary of report content

Healthwatch Rochdale wanted to understand better the reasons why people do or do not have measles vaccinations.  They heard from 30 people.

People were most likely to go to their GP for health advice about their children.

Reasons for people not getting their child the MMR vaccine included needle phobia, bad news stories about the MMR vaccine and religious and cultural beliefs.

Barriers to getting a vaccination included the difficulty of getting a GP appointment, no evening appointments and worries about side effects.

People wanted clear information from trusted sources and unbiased facts plus access to vaccination clinics at venues they already use.
