Healthwatch Surrey contributed to the network-wide NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) project. They engaged 138 people with general and specific conditions surveys. They also engaged people with a focus group and in-depth interviews with 7 children, parents and young adults.
The report found that residents want quicker GP appointments. It was reported that living in an environment with clean and unpolluted air was important to help them live healthily. Participants said that they want to have an active role in decision making about their healthcare. In order to live an independent life respondents want to have appropriate support and home care adaptations in healthcare delivery to help them remain independent. Ongoing support after diagnosis and assessments often did not meet people's needs. Families reported that having children with Special Educational Needs and Learning Disabilities should be less of a battle. People involved in care delivery need to do more to support transitions from 'childhood' to 'adulthood.'
The STP responded well to this report and will be working with Healthwatch Surrey to move things forward.
