Summary of report content

Five Healthwatch in the Yorkshire and Bassetlaw STP area used a survey and focus groups to gather people's views on people's experiences of general health and specific long term conditions. This engagement work was completed as part of the network-wide NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) project.

The findings in this report included that it was important to people that they work in partnership with their GP to get the care that is right for them. Physical and mental health should be treated together, according to the respondents. People want more rapid community response teams, improving the recognition of carers, giving more people more say about the care they receive and where they receive it and easier access to primary care. There was significant emphasis on the future role for schools, colleges and communities in the Mental Health Wellbeing of children and young people in terms of early intervention, prevention and raising awareness of mental health issues. Additionally, people stressed the importance of tackling the 'stigma' and stereotyping that has always been associated with mental health and learning disabilities.

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System (SYB ICS) are working with Healthwatch to develop these findings further.
