Summary of report content

Healthwatch Gloucestershire gathered views from 741 people using online surveys and interviews. They travelled around the county to engage specific communities, including The Chinese Community, The LGBT+ community, and young people not in employment, education or training (NEETS). The findings contributed towards a network wide project investigating the development of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP).

The report found that people want quicker access to and longer, better quality interactions with a named GP. To stay healthy, people reported that they would like easier and cheaper access to exercise and gym classes. It was also found that those with dementia and other long term conditions would like to access a Care Navigator to help them to navigate the care system and provide them with practical advice. Carers would like better support so they can carry out their role. Translated medication instructions and translation services should be provided to people who's first language is not English. The needs of the LGBT+ community should be considered when local and national plans are being put together. In particular, mental health issues and support around transition for the trans community.

The next steps that were suggested included that findings will be shared with key stakeholders across the local system. The progress of local plans will be monitored closely with Healthwatch Gloucestershire and the Integrated Care System (ICS) working together.

The ICS responded to the report and aimed to work collaboratively with Healthwatch Gloucestershire.
