Summary of report content

Healthwatch Dorset gathered views from 306 people using online surveys and 195 interviews. The findings contributed towards a network wide project investigating the development of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP).

The report found that people would like quicker and easier access to primary care services as well as diagnosis and treatment. It was suggested that people should have access to annual health checks so that any health issues can be picked up at an early stage. Better transport provision should be considered to help people in rural parts of the county. Information needs to be easily accessible to make informed decisions about their care and long-term condition. It was highlighted that people would like better awareness across the health service of the needs of those with a learning disability or autism when accessing care and treatment including respite and residential care.

The STP response suggests that they will continue to work with Healthwatch Dorset and they state that they will challenge the traditional view and move to a position where people and communities have charge of their health and wellbeing with the responsive services to support them.
