Healthwatch Derby and Healthwatch Derbyshire engaged 458 people through surveys and 48 people through focus groups. This feedback was collected as part of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) network-wide project.
The findings in the report include that service users and carers want to feel listened to by professionals. People want to be educated in where to access information and advice as it is not always possible to book an appointment with a GP. Joint decision making is imperative for people's care and treatment. A high proportion of people found it difficult to access ongoing support once they received their diagnosis. People have found it harder to seek help when they have more than one condition. Timely communication was seen to be paramount and people want to feel well supported at the end of life.
The Joined Up Care Derbyshire (JUCD) responded well to the findings and have stated that a draft STP plan is due to be submitted using this intelligence.
