Healthwatch Thurrock conducted an engagement exercise to explore the views and opinions of people with Long Term Conditions (LTCs). The aim of this work was to provide an evidence base for the development and improvement of care and the ways in which people with LTCs in Thurrock were supported to self-manage their conditions and general health.
Healthwatch Thurrock conducted a survey with 61 people living with both single and multiple LTCs. The survey was conducted face to face in order to get a depth of qualitative data and to capture voices. The survey questions were based around Public Health guidance and NICE best practice.
The survey questioned how much respondents understood about their LTCs and the connection between them and their lifestyle or choices. People were asked whether there was anything that they could have been done prior to diagnosis and what that may have been. Through the survey, other findings evolved surrounding how informed people were following their diagnosis, including gaining more support to self care, understanding their condition, and prevention information.
