Healthwatch Waltham Forest engaged with 54 people on their experience of ambulance services, as London Ambulance Service asked Healthwatch across London to feed into its strategy.
Nearly three quarters had used an ambulance in the last 12 months. Over half had received treatment for physical symptoms before having to call an ambulance and over two in five were already living with a chronic health issue.
The average wait time for an ambulance was 48 minutes. Over half the respondents felt the waiting time was entirely or somewhat reasonable. Most people had a very good experience of paramedics.
Nine in ten of those seen by paramedics were taken to hospital. The average journey took 17 minutes. Most people said the ambulance was clean and tidy.
The average waiting time in A&E was 1 hour and 14 minutes. Just over two in five waited up to 30 minutes. Over three in five felt the waiting time was entirely or somewhat reasonable. Three in five felt the services definitely worked well together.
Nine in ten agreed or strongly agreed that London Ambulance staff were competent, caring and dedicated. Under three in ten agreed or strongly agreed that the service is run efficiently. Just over a quarter agreed or strongly agreed that the service is well resourced and adequately funded.
