Healthwatch Stockport worked with Stockport Allergy Mamas to find out the level of support that their children received with their allergies. They spoke to 17 parents.
Parents felt unsupported and let down by services. They felt they were treated as neurotic and that healthcare professionals made assumptions about them as parents. They experienced difficulties in accessing specialist help and delays in referrals as well as referrals not being completed.
Seven in ten parents had been formally diagnosed with depression. Finding out more about their children’s allergies and seeking support had impacted their mental health.
