Summary of report content

On Wednesday 23 October 2019, Healthwatch Croydon organised a public meeting to discuss the proposal of Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group (which buys and monitors health services in Croydon) to merge with the five other South West London commissioning groups (Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth) to create a new South West London Clinical Commissioning Group.

At the meeting the following issues emerged:

  • How success was going to be measured
  • How quality was going to be measured
  • How the new structure would ensure people with learning disabilities get the services they need including annual health checks from GPs
  • What the role of patient participation groups might be in the new structure
  • Concern that there was a variance in the opportunity for public questions at meetings for the public
  • Whether enough time was planned to allow for reference groups to digest decisions as this is essential for them to be effective in their role
  • How Healthwatch Croydon’s independence could be ensured
  • How the role of volunteers within the NHS could be enhanced
