Summary of report content

Healthwatch Newcastle’s April to June 2026 insight report summarised feedback from 2,210 people gathered through 59 engagement sessions across 19 locations. The most common issues raised by residents related to accessing GP appointments, hospital delays, dentistry, community services and patient transport. GP services, hospitals and dentistry generated the highest levels of public feedback during the quarter.

A key example of impact involved a health information resource developed by Healthwatch Newcastle to help people identify the most appropriate NHS service for their needs. Feedback from a local community centre suggested the resource was useful both for routine signposting and during an emergency situation, helping staff and volunteers access the appropriate service more quickly and effectively.

The report also highlighted ongoing research and engagement work. Projects during the quarter focused on accessible information and health literacy, adult social care, physiotherapy, reasonable adjustments and Youthwatch. These projects aim to improve understanding of local experiences and inform service improvements across Newcastle.

Healthwatch Newcastle also continued its Enter and View programme, focusing on GP services. One GP visit had been completed during the quarter, with a report in progress, and further visits were planned. The report demonstrates Healthwatch Newcastle’s ongoing role in gathering feedback, highlighting local concerns and supporting improvements across health and social care services.
