Summary of report content

Healthwatch North Yorkshire undertook a research project to understand what continence services are available to adults living in North Yorkshire and about their experiences of accessing these services. The conducted a survey and had conversations with people and healthcare professionals and heard from 146 people.

Five key issues were identified, including stigma around bladder and bowel habits/issues, the need for more information, improvements to make continence services better, the impact continence issues have and awareness of continence issues.

The report concluded with recommendations to improve services, reduce stigma and improve awareness. These recommendations are targeted at GPs, specific continence services and secondary care, North Yorkshire Council, social care providers and the wider public.
