Healthwatch Manchester produced a Health and Care Experience profile about a person of South Asian ethnicity with diabetes.
This was part of a project led by Healthwatch England and NHS England to develop a qualitative methodology as part of the Local Integration Index. Eight local Healthwatch piloted this methodology by focussing on particular local groups with experiences of care across several health and care services. This methodology can be used to ensure people’s experiences of integration are used by local systems to track how services are working together locally.
In this report, Healthwatch Manchester report on the engagement they undertook to test this profile. They spoke to 20 people with diabetes.
Most people had interacted with their GP and the pharmacists. Under half reported that they had used any type of community service. Around half were involved in decisions about their care. There was a lack of support for people whose first language wasn’t English. Generally, the participants reported being quite satisfied with the way the different services worked together, There were two main issues which were highlighted – information sharing and concerns of a fragmented system.
People were concerned about the accessibility for health and dietary and exercise services. Some had never been told about them.
