Improving Diabetic Outcomes for people with poor Mental Health and/or Learning Disabilities within County Durham & Darlington

Summary of report content

Healthwatch Darlington worked with Darlington Borough Council to identify local charities and voluntary sector organisations to undertake initiatives to improve identification of type 2 diabetes.  They provided small grants to the successful organisations.

Cafe JJ which supports a team of disabled people to provide a community cafe, worked with Keyring to help their members understand their condition and to manage and control it.  They helped them create healthy recipes which would lower their risk.  32 people attended these sessions.

The Darlington Association on Disability offered bespoke sessions to meet individuals' needs, including people with autism and poor mental health.  They supported 15 people. 

The 700 Club which works with homeless and vulnerable people with the primary objective of assisting them to achieve independence provided training to their members.  They reached a total of 67 people.
