Healthwatch Cheshire West undertook research to identify gaps in service provision for disabled children and young people. This work was conducted as services for disabled children and young people were identified as a priority by the public. The team collected data over an 18 month period. They developed a survey which was distributed as a hard copy as well as online, led workshops locally, arranged drop in session and liaised with multi-agency professionals. The report includes the findings from many different engagements.
The team asked 4 questions using a variety of methods. There were a number of key issues identified in the report. In particular, the report identified that there were problems with how disabled children and young people experienced dentistry, and how the CAMHS service worked.
Over the 18 month period, people’s views were fed back to commissioners and service providers. The report included updates on each of the areas identified as having challenges. Healthwatch Cheshire West also outlined a number of next steps that it would take to raise awareness of the issues affecting disabled children and young people.
