Summary of report content

Healthwatch Leeds ran a survey to hear about people’s experiences during pregnancy and the impact the pandemic has had on them. 68 people took the time to share their experiences, 40 of whom were pregnant for the first time during lockdown. The survey ran from 15 June to 5 July.

The majority of people felt that lockdown had had a negative emotional impact during their pregnancy. Respondents also reported that they wanted more face to face appointments and check-ups. 9 respondents stated that having their partner with them during appointments would have allowed them to feel more supported.

This report also contains two case studies of a woman who became pregnant following fertility treatment abroad in 2020, and a woman who struggled to connect with her midwife. Healthwatch Leeds also spoke to Home Start, a community network of volunteers and experts supporting families and young children, about the impact of the pandemic on their services.
