Summary of report content

Healthwatch Croydon undertook a survey to find out how the Covid-19 pandemic had affected local people. They had 63 responses between 7 and 23 April 2020.

People have mainly been using the nhs.uk and gov.uk websites as well as BBC News as their main source of information.  People wanted more information about: the virus, symptoms, what to do when infected etc; national policy, when will the lockdown might end and concerns about non-compliance by some, and information about local provision and how to get help.

The survey asked Croydon residents to explain how the coronavirus outbreak has affected them so far. The key issues that they raised were food supplies, accessing healthcare, social isolation, mental health, financial worries and the impact on children.

Not surprisingly, social interaction was the highest need, with food and deliveries of food second, other significant numbers were concerned about keeping safe as well, money, accessing medical treatment and being able to undertake normal activity like getting a haircut.

The report contains suggestions for local action to address people’s needs.
