Healthwatch Cumbria conducted a survey to collect feedback from 785 local people about the impact of Coronavirus on their wellbeing and lifestyles.
The report found that their were gender differences regarding the impact on mental health, with men finding it impacted them less than women. A range of coping strategies were used including friends and family, self-support and using support services. People have reported the virus has had a financial impact on them and their families, including being furloughed. There are reports of cancelled or delayed appointments whilst a lot of people are receiving consultations online. Using phone or online consultations has yielded a variety of satisfaction experiences but the majority stated that they would use it again. There is concern over people who have reported they are at risk of violence, but are not able to get the help that they need. It is positive that so many people reported the ‘community spirit’ that they have experienced during this time.
Healthwatch Cumbria are working in together with the University of Cumbria to gather as much information as we can about people’s lived experience during this time.
