Summary of report content

Healthwatch Staffordshire decided to undertake research on hospital discharge.  They undertook a survey to which 171 people responded.

Key findings:

  • There is a lot of positive practice on hospital discharge that patients and carers value.
  • However, 50% of respondents rated their experience as either fair or poor.
  • People cited concerns about communication, discharge planning, delays in discharge and choice and control.

The report contains nine recommendations about patient and carer involvement in hospital discharge planning, communication, collecting and acting on feedback, medication delays and wellbeing checks following discharge.
