Summary of report content

Healthwatch Coventry undertook a research project in partnership with Young Beacons Ltd to understand how people in Black communities use services, receive information and how services can be improved. They conducted a survey and heard from 124 people.

Almost all of the respondents (114/124) said they had used GP services. Of these responses, 59 people commented positively about their care experience with their GP. However, some negative comments included waiting times for appointments and not feeling listened to.

The NHS website and GP practices are the most common source of information for respondents. Over half (59%) of respondents said they understood the information.

While there were many positive comments about NHS services issues were described with communication, accessibility and available appointments, and wider distribution of information. These main topics are highlighted as areas for improvement of services, particularly for Black communities.
